This young woman, partially hidden within some leafy branches, steals a shy peak at a young man who has recently shown an interest in her, and who later became her loving husband. (She was in her twenties when a photo of her was taken from which I did this drawing.) Sometime in her 30's she began having various recurring neurological problems which have left her unable to care for herself. Now in her 70's, and having recently lost her devoted husband, she lives in a care facility. I did this drawing as a gift to her to remind her of how beautiful she was then and how loved she continues to be by family and friends.
I have been seriously involved in watercolor painting for the last 20 years following retirement from my public school teaching career. Having the time to paint, along with the freedom from the need to make a living at the same time, has opened many wonderful new opportunities, friendships and experiences for me. I am a frequent exhibitor in art shows at the local, regional, state and national levels, having been honored to receive numerous awards for my work. My painting style is realistic. I am drawn to detail and favor the use of vivid color. I enjoy painting a variety of subject matter, but the glorious world of nature is what seems to suit me best. Many of my paintings reflect time spent outdoors, especially in the mountains...
