Description
This perspective allows the viewer to appreciate the seldom-noticed and intricately beautiful underside of this common wildflower, often considered "just a weed." The there is so much order and detail in nature that goes unnoticed or taken for granted that can bring joy to those who take time to truly see and appreciate it. (In order to capture reference photos for this piece, I had to lie on my back in a drainage ditch beside a bicycle trail...awkward, but well worth the effort and slightly embarrassing curiosity of passers-by!)

Yes, Warren, I did use masking on this one. In order to get an even wash for the blue sky, I masked everything lighter than the blue...which was nearly all of the flower petals. Kind of like painting it twice! Thanks for your comment.
Warren Thompson
Very creative. Beautiful. Do you use masking to achieve this?
Barbara Jewell replied:
A belated reply, Warren! Thank you, and yes, I do use masking in order to get a smooth wash of blue behind the flower.
