Poinsettia, Star of Bethlehem

Description
The poinsettia's first association with Christmas began in 16th century Mexico. From the 17th century, Franciscan friars there included the plants in their Christmas celebrations. The star-shaped leaf is said to symbolize the Star of Bethlehem, (thus my title) and the red color represents the blood sacrifice of Jesus. This beautiful flower is still a key feature in Christmas decorations everywhere. This watercolor is a close-up of a blossom from one of my own Christmas poinsettias.
