Painting - Watercolor On Japanese Rice Paper
Description
Watercolor portrait of an unusual bearded iris in our garden: The painting is done on masa paper, (Japanese rice paper), which is crinkled, wet, then glued to 140 lb. watercolor paper. Paint is "dropped" onto the wet surface and allowed to run into the creases made by the crinkling which creates interesting textures and patterns. Once the paper is completely dry, the image is painted and completed.

Exceptional! You might like Al Ng's florals. I want to try rice paper. Does gluing affect the painting long term?
Barbara Jewell replied:
Thanks for the first comment on this new piece, and for the suggestion! The glue used is Elmer's School Glue, so that the paint can be absorbed. I've never heard of a problem over time, but I couldn't say for sure. (Good question!)
