Description
During the "Summer of Covid," my back deck was a welcome retreat on warm sunny days. It was a safe place to spend time with a few family members or close friends, keeping socially distant, or just to enjoy the outdoor surroundings by myself. In previous years, I had hung various red flowers in baskets outdoors in attempts to lure hummingbirds; but to no avail. Tho' the previous summer's Mandevilla were unsuccessful, this year's baskets seemed to have finally attracted the hoped-for attention!. The first time I spotted the hummingbirds was a truly joyful moment; one of the few such moments during an otherwise difficult time. As such, the image "begged" to be captured and painted! Here's hoping that as vaccines become more readily available, this summer will necessitate many fewer restrictions, along with the return of my tiny visitors, with the help of these glorious red flowers.
